How do we activate the custom site slogan?

Issue Summary

I need a step-by-step for enabling the display of the alternate site slogan which happens to appear in the upper right corner. It's visible in the screenshot, but I can't get it working. I have a value for the slogan variable, it just doesn't appear.

Never mind. I was viewing the theme in admin mode

I added the site slogan to the page.tpl.php, so it now appears beneath the header block.
