Simple problem. Simple solution?
I have a family web site. I have "node access" under "user management" set to show nodes only for authenticated users. That means that the home page always shows the content text "Access Denied..." This confuses several members of my family, even though the login block is clearly visible. Somehow, these several family members don't know to simply login to see the content. I'd like to say I'm not blood related to them, but I am. The purpose of setting the "node access" this way was to not have any of the content visible to unauthenticated users.
So how can I change the site so that a home page for unauthenticated users shows something instructional about logging in to get access? I can use the "front page" module to set a custom front page, but I still would have to change the "node access" to "anonymous user" for this special front page to be seen, and then I'd have to limit all other nodes to only the authenticated users. That seems like a lot of work.
There must be a simple way?

i use the 5.x version of front page; anonymous has no access, and the entire default landing page is built within the front page module, standard html/css. similar to the mission and footer message, i guess.
playing with the 4.7 version, it seem to be similar. just remember to activate it as the default front page setting.
here's a link to the module
Just for reference, here's a link to the module we're talking about:
