Issue Summary
A short how to page that explains how one can set up a list with all items in a category (similar to the default front page) and make an alias for it

should be added to http://drupal.org/getting-started/5/basic

i would like to do it, but i'm not sure wether this page should list all terms of a vocabulary or all nodes of a term

so, here's the thing: this would be done with views, and all the main views handbook pages (eg. http://drupal.org/node/322506) say "PLEASE do not add more tutorials here -- file an issue in the Views module instead, to get your tutorials added to Advanced Help instead."
i actually think this is really unfortunate that someone has decided we shouldn't be creating proper handbook docs for views - especially because what's there is really poorly organized.
thoughts?

FWIW, that person was merlin; if you want to create handbook docs, that's fine. His stance is that the official documentation is in advanced help, where it all gets reviewed as part of the patch process. He just doesn't have the bandwidth to oversee the handbooks as well, and when the handbooks are wrong, he gets stuck with it in the morass that is the views issue queue.

thx esmerel - that is good to know. i think people tend to look online and to the handbook frequently, as that is where most docs are, and also that it limits the ability of others to contribute docs when it's just in the module. that said, no doubt the highest *quality* docs are in the adv help in the module.
but i think it does make sense to have an overview and some basics of the views module at the /handbook/modules/views page, and then we (the docs team) i think could stand to take a stab at pulling all the various how-to's and tutorials that have been posted into some sort of better organization (as it would seem people have been posting things regardless and it's gotten a little crazy in there!).
last thing i want to do is put this on earl's plate, so i would think this should really be the docs team's responsibility. if he gets requests for docs updates for views handbook stuff in the views queue, feel free to move them into the docs queue for us to deal with.
if that's all cool with you (on behalf of earl) ;-) then i'll open a new issue to clean up that part of the handbook.
and this issue can stay open, in case anyone wants to write up a how-to for that (it's pretty basic stuff).
#7
Removing d7docs tag.

I'm going to close this, as it's pretty old and in relation to Views docs which are all in advanced help. If anyone still feels it needs work, please reopen.
