Taxonomy dependency

Without taxonomy module installed the modules produces a PHP error "Call to undefined function taxonomy_get_vocabularies()" on the node breadcrumb admin page.
Add a dependency in the .info file or better, can the admin page work without taxonomy module do without? I have the impression node_breadcrumb can work without taxonomy module.
