These are my final three in a search for a high quality, high spec host - not interested in $5/month deals.

Anyone care to choose a winner from these three or even make another suggestion for a HIGH quality host ? :-) if the cost is under $10 monthly, I'm not interested. I'm a firm believer in getting what you pay for!

Shared hosting?

I just left ASO because their shared servers wouldn't support my Drual install. Issues with memory limit in php.

I would say that my experience with ASO went from outstandingly great, to mediocre in the 1.5 years I was with them.. The past few months had really awful uptime. But to defend ASO, they were always 100% there with support. Spot on every time, which is very impressive with most shared hosts.

Aside from the uptime, and it not being able to run my Drupal install, I would recommend ASO.

I've been using Media Temple for several months now and am very pleased with it. I'm on their Grid-Service plan ($20/month), which is a big improvement over your typical shared server plan. They also offer virtual servers and other higher priced options, but I can't speak to those.

thanks for the suggestion, I've just sent my mini list of questions off to them. See what they come back with.

MediaTemple is who I switched to from ASO. So far, their support is no where near as good as ASO's.. and I need it as I am not familiar with Plesk over cPanel. I'm using their dedicated virtual server and so far so good once I figure out how to use it. ;)

I left ASO nearly 2 years ago because their support was awful. I went to site5 where the support was decent but I pretty quickly outgrew shared hosting. I'm at http://www.hotdrupal.com now and happy with them.

how is it that within an hour, one person can post that ASO's support is great and another, that their support was awful? Is it just down to subjectivity? Michelle, what did you find awful about ASO support?

First off, it's been nearly 2 years so they may have improved. But it's also a matter of what tech you have. Any company will have good ones and bad ones. Maybe I just got the bad ones every time. They just seemed really clueless and I got stock answers that looked autogenerated from keywords and made no sense.

It also drove me batty that I had to contact tech support to add a subdomain since I do that frequently. Overall I was just unhappy there so I didn't stay long.

Regarding HostGator, you can try them out for a month for just a cent here and see if they suit your needs.
