It would be sensible to allow the form element "list selection" to get its list from a defined taxonomy vocab, rather than free text.

Free text is okay, but if you want to change the spelling of one of the options it will not be reflected across all the previous users profiles. Not great for a database of users.

Maybe the answer is creating a new form element ("taxonomy selection"?) you can add to a profile?
