two positions: 1) world class themer; 2) expert developer | timeframe: 2.5 weeks
Dear all,
I need immediate and committed assistance to realize an difficult web project in Drupal.
Having spent eight weeks looking for volunteer help, I now must bring this to the paid help community. Though several volunteers did come forward, their capacities were unfortunately not to the standard that I need.
I need two types of help: 1) theming; and 2) general optimization / development.
Theming is the most important thing that I need.
For theming, I need world class level design capabilities. The project I need to realize is controversial and grave. I need a person able to understand my needs and work closely with me on realizing a final design.
For development, I need expert understanding of the full capacities of Drupal, in all its various modules, again including commitment to understanding the nature of what I must achieve and a solid ability to customize modules (and perhaps write modules) in order to get there.
These are two paid positions, but if a single person has the two skills and abilities that would be great.
My reference point is www.developmentseed.org. Unfortunately, that company is fully booked up for the foreseeable future. Their site is a decent model for implementation and design (though the functionality I need will be more advanced). If you are capable of designing to that aesthetic level, or capable of implementing a site with that or a higher level of development, please contact me. If not, please be modest and ignore this post.
I hope someone out there sees this post and can help. If this was a normal project I could take my time. It is not. It concerns the killing of numerous ordinary people in Iraq. It is urgent.
Please contact me for full details on the nature of the site I must build.
Please include URLs to your portfolio, and a rough estimate of fees asked. The timeframe of the work is around 2.5 weeks.
Developers will be asked to sign a simple non-disclosure agreement for security reasons.
I can be contacted on MSN (ianrobertdouglas@hotmail.com) and / or Skype (ianrobertdouglas), or by email at: iandouglas@USgenocide.org

We can provide what you need.
Hello Dr. Douglas,
My brother and I have just recently began offering our services to the public and we have openings available. You may take a look at what we can do at http://collectivecolors.com. We have been working with Drupal for about 2 years (4 combined) and we understand the intricacies of the Drupal system quite well. We can develop themes, modules, and web apps to your specifications.
If you wish to engage in a more thorough conversation about your needs, our abilities, and pricing, please contact us at derek(at)collectivecolors(dot)com or just use the contact form at our site.

Best regards, Derek Webb
On a side note: It would take a much greater time than 2.5 weeks to develop a site such as developmentseed (unless you hire many developers)...
For instance
For instance, we have developed collectivecolors.com over a period of about 1 month (first public show yesterday), perhaps a bit less. I am aware that it needs more work to become "highly" engaging. I suspect that in another month or two I will probably have some nice flex/flash animations (perhaps even with clickable events - who knows) to really spice it up.
This though, is why I say that it would take quite a bit of time to develop a project to the same scale and refinement of developmentseed.org. 2.5 weeks would probably work if you already had all the graphics that you want to display as well as your idea of the proper layout. Researching that stuff (not to mention getting approval) takes time. So, as I see it, you can do one of two things if you don't already have your graphics and layout/design finalized: 1. Hire several designers and programmers with a good team leader, or 2. Expect development time of about 3-5 months.
Thats really just my ¢2's though.
Best regards, Derek

I understand ...
Dear Derek,
I have a full installation of Drupal and have been exploring for eight weeks various modules and their functionality.
On time, I have a deadline: the US occupation will negotiate directly with the so-called Iraqi government, sidelining parliaments in both countries, what amounts to a nine year treaty institutionalizing the occupation. This can happen anytime between now and December, but is likely to happen sooner rather than later. I need to launch urgently; this aside from the fact that the genocide in Iraq that my initiative aims to halt by way of legal intervention is live and ongoing:
I have many ideas of design, and we have been working hard. There are many points of reference to guide us, and we may even consider simply porting a xhtml-css template, or a Joomla template, to Drupal. In my view, the greatest failing of Drupal so far is its available themes. Frankly, there are none that are appropriate for a project like mine. A great many are simply garbage.
My budget is also small, I should say, because I live in the global South and will pay for this personally. I can't see that there is more than a couple of weeks' work, for the expert professional. We just can't find one.
Ideally an expert who understands that helping international lawyers to work to turn around the atrocity we are all forced to witness in Iraq would offer immediate and committed services, allowing me to focus on building the actual initiative and launching in defence of the Iraqi people.

I can't see that there is
Your cause is indeed a good one. I hope that you are able to find someone or some group to help you out with this project. It seems a bit daunting from a developer's prospective though. The reason for this is you say that you have need for module development and theming up to the standards set by developmentseed.org's site. All I can say to you is this, unless you already have most of the graphics (or at least REALLY close approximations) of the ones you are going to need on your site, then expect some pretty long R&D times. Functionality/module development and testing will also take time. Two and a half weeks would work for a relatively small scale project - but you are asking a lot to have great functionality and highly polished design in 2.5 weeks. Rome was not built in a day and neither are good web sites.
One of the problems that you may be experiencing in finding developers is you have somewhat over-the-top expectations about what can be done in a given time frame. I hope for your sake, and for that of your well intentioned and honorable project, that I am wrong, however I have a feeling that I am not. I truly do wish you the best of luck. I too feel that the US has done wrong and I am glad that you want to bring your knowledge and passion for this cause to the rest of the world (God knows Americans won't hear that stuff on faux news).

advanced themers only please
This is not in reference to Derek's reply, from www.collectivecolors.com, but rather in reference to a few people who contacted me on Skype:
I look for advanced theming and design capabilities. If you can understand and appreciate the work of www.developmentseed.org, and match it, please do contact me. If not, please do not.
I ask for your understanding on this point as I'm pressed for time and so only wish to discuss with serious and capable designers and developers.

Theming is my forte...
If you had the design of www.developmentseed.org in a PSD, I could match their work within 4 days.
I'm an AP Computer Science student and I can code in PHP but module development is something I have yet to master. At this point, the only thing I can bring to the table is this... If you want a theme... be it Drupal 5.x or 6.x, I can do it fast.
I am in the middle of 3 projects currently so if you want it done right and documented it will be priced accordingly. You can contact me here: pegleglax[at]gmail[dot]com. (sorry, i hate email spammers)
Exactly my point: If you had
Exactly my point:
See the thing is not difficulty in putting images in css backgrounds or display in any way, the real challenge and time consumer is developing the images themselves.
Oh yeah, and you will need to have a VERY clear idea of your layout if you want to shorten the development time. The layout and structure of a web site with a great deal of content can be somewhat time consuming too however if you know exactly what you want then it is a great deal easier.
