Plus(+) instead of Dash(-) as separator- how to fix?

I am using the Taxonomy Redirect module. I am using it to replace a taxonomy term id with the !name variable. This works great except that when the term name is two words it uses plus (+) as a separator.

I have pathauto setup to use a dash (-) as the separator and that works everywhere else- why would Taxonomy Redirect cause there to be a plus instead of a dash?
