Reasons for combining these modules:
a) The gallerix module has the upload features the image module needs (could offer per-user upload too), and the AJAX view of the albums woud be a nice option for images in the image module's galleries too, even if they are stored as single nodes (preferable, I think). The most important is the potential of combining the mass upload feature of Gallerix (upload and extract zip files, but also upload many single files in one go from the local computer) with the Image import feature of this module. We would like to name titles and body text easily on one page for all uploaded photos as the image import lets us, but from either local single files, local zip files, or server folders. The two modules contain the code needed for all this.
b) Stop the confusing mix of terms: the image module calls its groups "galleries", the gallerix module calls them "albums" and stores all photos inside one node, yet the module name is "gallerix", which gives the association to the other module. (If they are not combined, maybe they should switch or change names: maybe the image module should be called Gallerix and the Gallerix module called Albums.)
