I am a php developer who has developed my own CMS. However I am not into reinventing the wheel so I am thinking about joining a CMS project. I read this http://buytaert.net/on-hiring-drupal-talent and am interested. What is the fastest way to get involved as a drupal dev?

Fastest way is to develop
Fastest way is to develop you own module first. when you get the hang of it, search for maintainers. Several module need maintainers. May be one day you can be a owner of a pretty good module.
