This maybe a silly question so i do apologise. But i just wanted to know if i disabled a few modules that is not needed on the site this time and possibly might use them at a later date.

What happens when they are disabled from the site but is still in the site's directory. Does this affect the site performance or they are left idle until enabled again?

They are left in the directory until they are needed again (enabled).

Disabling modules may have a positive effect on performance, depending on the site, volume of traffic and specific modules.
