I spotted this post over at http://www.anelloconsulting.com/automatic_configuration_tinymce_drupal where someone created a module that does the 'Bryght' TinyMCE configuration, somewhat based on this one.
Since both configurations were really useful I have tried to merge some bits from both - see attached patch.

I think this makes sense as a .inc file, which we can include on the admin/settings/tinymce page to add a form with buttons that do the magic for each profile. Once this gets in we can probably get the description for the automatic configuration module adjusted to mention that that project is depreciated.
