ok i am about to install 6.1
but here is what i need to have it do
i want a forums would love something like phpbb3 style
i need A gallery that i can give users if i choose their own section to upload into.
i want a payment gateway for banners so vendors can pay for banner ads and i want a banner system that will let me place them in key locations
i dont know if this is even possible at this point but i am hopefull.
i also need google store locater integration all protected under a members area if i choose

can anyone point me in the right direction?

There are a lot of galleries but i didn't really test them all. But i don't think gallery will be a big problem.

A lot of modules do not work yet with 6.1 so maybe it would be better to go with 5.X and widen your scope for choice of modules which are tested, working and known to be stable. Plus there is the fact all books currently in print are for 5.X so if you intend to develop your skills in drupal then your reading material is aimed at 5.X.

There are a couple phpbb integration modules in the download section. http://drupal.org/project/phpbb http://drupal.org/project/phpbbforum

As for ecommerce solutions, here's the page http://drupal.org/project/Modules/category/104 that lists some. I'm not sure about placing ads - LM_paypal was a module that did that, but I haven't seen it updated in a while.

There was a non-drupal script I remember seeing - something like phpadnews - that did that.

And unless there's something super-specific you need in Drupal 6, you might be better off module-wise to stick with 5.7 for now.
