does that mean that this patch and hence the current module will auto-style any search box to look like a rounded corner search box and not just safari?

tsi: open a new issue rather than hijacking an existing one for a completely unrelated query. In any case, in my testing today it appears to work fine in Chrome. Have you seen a specific problem? If so, open a new issue and report it.
