Upgraded to 5.x-10alpha1 and now clicking the markers does nothing. using Drupal 5.7

Correct. I believe that alpha1 tweaked this variable and so you need to go back and change it after upgrading to alpha1. Starting from beta1, attempts are made to keep the settings in a sane state at all times, but before beta1, stuff tended to change a lot.
