Hi Aaron,

It was a pleasure to meet you at DrupalCon Boston, and I wanted to ask you a very quick question about EMF, specifically what possible risks there are to using the development module on a Drupal 4.7 site in production. I don't really want to screw the pooch on a live site, so I just wanted to touch base with you about that.

There is no realistic possibility of the site being upgraded to 5.0 in any forseeable future (aside- have you seen the list of major media properties all running 4.7, jeez it's a long one!) so if I want to hook them up with some EMF, it would have to be on 4.7, and again, I just wanted to know what kind of risk you think might be there.

I don't see how it could cause any serious damage, but wanted to ask about known and potential issues.

Thanks again for your a m a z i n g module, and maybe see you on IRC sometime.

best,

already answered via e-mail. here it is for everyone else:

basically, you should be fine using 4.7 on a production site. you may not get all the features, and some providers might not work entirely. however, you can sometimes get more functionality for a specific provider by copying over the provider file from the 5.x version. test that first though, as there's no guarantee, and i'm not supporting 4.7 or adding new features.
