i've installed drupal and am trying to find a module that will make the small drupal man in the logo come out of the screen and either walk my dogs or alternatively, put them on the leads that i've tied up outside.
so far i've looked at views and cck, but i think maybe i should use gallery or organic groups, i'm not really sure. i'll be posting fifty to one hundred questions about this in the forums over the next few hours.
...when i'm done posting my questions though, i will not be returning to the forums to answer questions for anybody else. ever. why on earth would i do that?
i've contacted my hosting provider to see if this is some kind of problem on their server or if it's drupal and it appears to be just drupal.
...i know this because my hosting provider said, "it's never us, it's probably all drupal's fault, it's typically never us anyways so you don't need to call back about this"
i also called my friend who is really good with computers and he said that it is probably drupal and most likely a serious bug in the core files and drupal should remove the download link from the home page until this is fixed. he is really very good with computers and so i trust him completely (he was the first person in my entire town to own his own copy of frontpage and is now doing cutting edge work with google pages including many custom colors and font choices)
.....
....seriously people. i'm floored by the amazing number of folks posting questions without EVER searching the drupal.org site OR clicking that little link right up top called documentation - see it up there? it links to a handbook just full of answers - all for free!
yup, that handbook is free, no charge. go crazy people, print that thing out!
tuesday bonus (!): *also* included for free with most modules is a small file called readme.txt - clever name, huh? why call it 'readme'? simple: the module developer wants you to read it *before* asking questions about basic installation and configuration.
sorry, just felt like ranting for a brief minute...feel all better now.

ROFL
Haven’t laughed so much in ages… So true, so why do these people not help themselves – maybe they’re used to being spoon-fed by their mummy.
If one of them manages to read this, they’ll probably think it written by a more eloquent version of themselves, and feel justly vindicated, without bothering to read to the end.

I'm really upset by this post . . .
Yes, I am. Really . . .
Really upset that you felt the need to post it, because you're absolutely 100% correct and I understand fully how you feel
Unfortunately this is the way the world is. However, there are some of us who do appreciate everything that the developers and coders do for us
Please accept my sincere thanks for everything I've read and learned on these forums. I now have (almost) a web site I could never have dreamed of without the assistance of everyone on these forums and the hard work of the developers who make it all possible
I have to say that I'm looking forward to helping others create their own Drupal site, but just as I think I'm getting to grips with things I discover something else I need to learn!!! In truth that's one of the reasons I just love Drupal
Anyway . . . how about a module to make the little Drupal guy get off the screen and pour us all a beer?
Now there's an idea!
Biggy
hah, drupal needs more like you...
seriously, that's the ideal workflow:
new user downloads, installs, returns to site to get information and assistance
user is thrilled, continues to develop.
user begins to understand drupal, returns to forums to answer questions for others.
..if only it always worked that way...

-deja vu-
i've read these words before just not in the exact same context ; )
you forgot the part where "insert other software" does this type of task why doesn't drupal.
& the ever so involved. Why can't someone just do this for me, it's a simple problem.

I managed to get the little
I managed to get the little drupal logo chap to walk my cat.
Unfortunately my cat didn't like walking on a lead & ran up a tree & now my drupal logo chap is stuck & I'm too ashamed to call the fire brigade.
:(
cool - also found a new use for macbook air
so i could NOT get drupal guy to pop out of header to pick up this dog crap by the back door, but what i did was simply borrow a neighbor's macbook air, open the same site and then used the super-thin screen half of the laptop to scoop the crap up which is kinda like having drupal do it, but less web 2.0 i suppose...
Good solution, that explains
Good solution, that explains why macs cost more than pc.
I think somone should definitely develop a Web 2.0 thing for this.
Obviously it would be called eScat.
