We just implemented something like this for another project -- imported a couple million nodes of different types.

Please send me some details about the data source, whether they are to be mapped into equivalent CCK types in Drupal (or some other target node type), transformations if any, and your timeline.

I have done 40+ times database import thing from another database to drupal database this is not a very vast thing to do.
