Roople with Drupal
I am one that is always testing out different Drupal Themes to see how fast I can create a modest looking website that displays slide shows, photos and videos without to much design to conflict with the main event.
I have made a move over to Roople - I am normally change the way my site looks once every 6 months - just to keep things fresh looking.
I am patiently waiting till I have time to learn more web design - being a full time photographer and managing more than 60 elopements & weddings per year keeps by ability to grow in web development extremely this latest effort has me using the ever so pleasing nice menus.
I am always in a rock and hard place because I want fluid design that allows the easy display of Desktops.
But also want scalable navigation because I have thousands of images i want to share or sell.
I am looking to start marketing my scenic images that I have just begun to post on my site. Does any one out there have a suggestion what is a good price to sell a high resolution 14"x 21" file for?
I have not spent much time yet with this. But until I am ready to move my site over to another hosting account
and upgrade to Drupal 6.1. I am researching the Drupal Modules for more effective ways to market my stock images.
All The Best,
John

Personally I would wait on
Personally I would wait on moving to Drupal 6.1. You probably want to wait till more of the modules and themes are available before you make the move.
I have learned my lesson...
I have few sites running on Drupal and I am blown away with the new drag and drop features!
Being that I have been running on Drupal since 4.6 I have been blown away with of how fast the community has grown and how well the system better than anything I have ever used online before. I have been promoting my services online now for over 8 years. And my best efforts have been with Drupal!
All The Best!

who would ever of guessed
Poking around in the themes - I looked at The Internet Corporation theme! Its amazing how first impressions can really make you wonder how hard the theme will be to edit and customize.
Some slight editing of the CSS and this theme is pretty clean! Move over Roople, Light Jazz can take a rest.
Don't even need to worry about the nice menus - they are cleaner looking than ever before!
A little more clean up is needed on the css but hey this theme can even handle the larger images I have posted on the site for Free Desktops!!! And again the site looks light enough for a wedding photographer's website!
Reasons I search the Drupal themes and put much time in reviewing the power of the theme and why after one year toying with the provided themes I have ended up here on March 11th 2008 after 13 months and 4 major theme concepts that only require hours of editing not weeks of editing.
Including Aberdeen, Blue Breeze, Blue Zone, Foliage, litejazz, and finally the current arrival at Internet Corporation!
All these themes support left hand side bars for your menus. Which allows proper use of the image module that automatically produces a original link for the observations of original uploaded files. Some themes just don't work with this with the fixed right side sidebars getting in the way. Of course not all Drupal users will need to display large samples like I need to for my destination brides wanting to view samples with ease online. But this is a powerful way to utilize the effectiveness of Drupal very powerful image module!
The next reason for testing these themes is even though the quality of monitors on average has improve most folks still prefer to browse a site of under 1024px wide which requires a theme that has a slick layout working resolutions around 900px wide but is still able to display extra large images without leaving the current page ( like this free desktop http://mybanffphotographer.com/node/488?size=_original ) . It's a lot to ask - a site that can have hundreds and even thousands images to exhibit and sell with ease, still be compact, and fool proof to navigate for e commerce of packages and the sale of independent download files as well - Drupal does all of this with ease for the photographer that is burden by the high over head of daily operation in a Prime Resort location like Banff with rents higher than large cities with a very seasonal earning period!
What a dream to edit in just over a hour with building a new intro.jpg !!
Worth the go a sharp looking as well!

8 Year Milestone Achieved With Drupal!
For the better part of Ten Years I have been making a go of marketing myself online as a photographer.
Trying to break into the top ten of Google's Search for my region with the most used key words with my website has been thought to be impossible until now! The Node Words module must be really working because my dream of cracking that very solid Top Ten is now longer a dream. You can not believe how much fresh wind in my sails there is knowing as long as I keep adding content to my site using the very favored key words "Banff Photography" that I could very well take the top spot in a very short period of time. Drupal is going to have a website at the top the charts for Planet Earth's very first World Heritage Site! Now, I just have to learn how to make her prettier to show my competitors that we have search engine "Nobility" with "Drupal" and "Beauty" as precious as the backdrop I work to represent!
I am starting to add more free desktops to my site now and every day I will add at least 2 images with these key words and we will see how long it takes Google to give me the top spot to reward the efforts I am making on this end of it's link.
Last year at this time I was way back in the 70s for this search!!
Will keep everyone posted with this because this is very exciting!!!!

Updating your site once every 24 hour does this!
It's been only 4 days since i posted this reply about my success gaining the top 10 of Google with the 2 most searched keywords for my region. Now with much dedication.. updating my site on regular basis and adding fresh content that is rich with strong key words have come from a listing of number 10 out of top 10 to a listing of number 5! This is an amazing jump for just 4 days as this top ten group are core businesses that have dominated the top ten for years. Some of these companies have huge marketing dollars and yet my humble efforts with a very little marketing budget is still catching on to the number one listing which is a company that incomes at least 30 times what I income in a years time.
The only difference is I am running on Drupal - they have a flash landing page with a few links an a 3 image slide show
Go Drupal!
So be sure when your building your site make sure you have important keywords on every page in every sentence . Make sure that your key words used in the node words module follows the content you are adding.
Reasons I am with Drupal - The Top Ten!
1) The Freedom to Update on a Regular Daily basis regardless where I am on the Planet.
2) I can add almost what ever kind of content I wish.
3) A group of modules that run bug free and are tested by solid developers.
4) Themes that are easy to edit with very little prior knowledge - Did not have any really web developing training before I STUMBLED on to Drupal.
5) Flexible content display
6) E commerce that integrates with CORE better than any other paid E commerce application that you can purchase. This is a huge one for - there is nothing worst than building a store front that is invisible to search engines.
7) Security updates almost once every three months at the least.
8) The most real time Website Statistics Admin Panel I have ever seen.
9) I can install a Drupal site in about 5 minutes.
10) The most important reason I am with Drupal is the Community. These people are real people - yes we do think that Drupal is the best but with infrastructure of support. The huge amount information that branches into so many solutions in every forum thread. Drupal can truly help Individuals like myself. 2 years ago I was in financial mayhem and with following some basic SEO guidelines to success and Drupals amazing power and huge support group online 24/7/ 365. I am now in the top ten with zero monies spent on pay per click with the most searched key words for the region in my industry. This would have cost me hundreds of dollars per month alone with Google and I would have never have grown as much as I have with all I have learned on my most favorite website!
If you are just starting online keep your faith and remember if you give your new relationship with Drupal a chance you won't be sorry how far you will go if you do your part because the Drupal Core has gone further than most programs I have seen folks pay huge dollars for in less time!
As basic as this is I hope this helps new folks looking for a reliable Online solution that has more of a Future compared to most solutions I have tried.

It's kind of funny repling to your own thread but....
Well its been a busy week and monitoring how my site placing in Google's importance is very interesting.
I have not posted anything new on my site for a little over 4 days and my listing has dropped about 3 listings to the Top 11th spot for "Banff Photography" as the key words. Just been too busy photography Weddings to update the site.
I am organizing exactly how I am going to post 3 new royalty free files for sale at least once a day. The new post do create effective Google listing that promote more traffic to my site but I need financial income besides the Elopement and Wedding work to maintain the site. With spring just around the corner (prime time to promote and collect new Royalty Free Stock Images.)
I will keep this thread updated on how fast my site climbs back to the spot it was before I stop posting content rich images and descriptions. Being so close to the number one spot that should be our aim - shouldn't it?
Cheers,
Johnny
Feeding the Googlebot!
The right Theme has always been important to me because navigating my site easily is important for the thousands of forms of content for my hungry visitors including those very important web crawlers I want to have. This is why we have a Drupal site. At the same time I have always wanted more Google links feeding my site. Drupal is the corner stone of my photography business! As long as l make every content type search engine friendly my site will keep on dominating listings because I can simple add content at will - I have a Drupal Site to employ my arsenal of images throughout the internet. My regional competitors are going in the opposite direction by reducing how much information is search engine friendly on their sites - very afraid of folks stealing low quality non printable files. As I understand it as long as I add content to my site the web crawlers return on a daily basis -sometimes Google hits me twice a day! With my site, I am using the image module each image is becomes a node and sometimes as many 5 Google Listings - depending how detail rich the description is. This is the "Drupal Advantage" because instead of the image just sitting there accessible via a XML file waiting for eternity to be found. The Drupal node image is a live link in the Sea of Google links actively being searched. So lets party on with creating content with Google and Drupal! As a Photographer the images are made to work for me as many times I see fit for them to do so. Drupal is empowering them to do just that! I am going to add at least 5 images per day with high quality descriptions - we will find out shortly how long it takes for my traffic to double, again, and again.
Hope this helps people understand how great Drupal is for Marketing when you don't have a huge marketing budget!
Kind Regards,
Johnny
fixing the nice menus
Hello All,
I am working on fixing my nice menus - to make them transparent - iam currently using this I found and testing it on a blank page. It shows itself as a black window on this page http://mybanffphotographer.com/node/516 - does anyone now what i have missed on this go? The current iframe presents the flash but the nice menus wants to fall behind the window.
Many thanks,
Johnny
