ImageCache, Views, Node Hierarchy: Only generate & display 1st thumbnail of a preset on view?

I am running a setup with Parent-Child relationships and basically have the images of the child nodes appearing on the parent node page. Thing is, there are numerous children nodes.. Thing is, I want a primary picture to represent the parent node FROM the child node images.

So I ended up making a preset that would crop and scale the image and made a list view in Views to display the small scaled (but uncropped) thumbs to appear underneath everything at the bottom. The main picture that is cropped and scaled I would like to appear above. Thing is, the preset scales and crops EVERY image uploaded for the preset. Is there some method to limit it to only the first one uploaded so subsequent ones are not displayed?
