flexnode / form to create node content

kwgossett - March 27, 2008 - 15:13

Hello,
I am looking for a way to make a form, which will be filled out by admins or selected roles, and will publish simple content...nothing too complicated. I see that Flexnode is only available in 4.7, and Webforms is not for creating nodes. I'm not very familiar with CCK, and it has been suggested that newbies avoid it completely. I've done an advanced search for "form type:project_project," and there seem to be several dozen pages of 'form' projects. The best 'solution' I've found so far is MultiForm.

I would expect to go to Create Content, then fill out the form, then publish it. It will also be categorized, but that's a different subject.

I'm sure there is a simple way to do this...I just havent found it. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Kelly

Don't dismiss CCK

It is not as hard as you may think and can almost certainly be configured to do what you want.

Second on CCK

Second on CCK and I see no reason why a new person should avoid it. Personally I think it is the easiest way for someone to create custom content types.

Thanks for the suggestions!

So far, this is not too bad....actually kinda fun ;^)

Now another question...

I want to add a 'sub group' (Directions) to CCK's 'Add Group' (Event). I've created a vocabulary/taxonomy/category ('directions') and added two terms (starting point, ending point) to be filled in as part of the form. I've enabled the new vocabulary for the Event Type. I just cant figure out how to get the 'starting point' and 'ending point' to appear inside of Directions. Directions is really just a label...no text is entered.

I know I could create a Directions group, and add starting point/ending point fields...but then it would look out of place.

Am I on the right track by creating a taxonomy? If so, how do I get it to starting point/ending point terms to appear inside of Directions (which is inside of Event)?

Thanks
k

I am unclear on what "directions" are

I am unclear on what "directions" are but taxonomy terms do not make sense in this case to me and I do not understand what you mean by "but then it would look out of place".

My site is about kayaking

kwgossett - March 27, 2008 - 19:24

My site is about kayaking rivers. I've created a CCK Form called 'River Descriptions'. River Descriptions includes the name of the river, the section, directions, classification, gradient, description, etc. A subgroup of 'directions' will include directions to the starting point ('put in') and directions to the ending point ('take out').

I understand now, that taxonomy may not be the way to go, as it simply creates a dropdown menu of Starting Point and Ending Point (not what I need).

It should look like this:

River Description
-Name: Some text
-Section: Some text
-Directions: (no text here)
---Starting point: some text
---Ending point: some text
-Description: lots of text.

I just need to know how to create the subgroup for Directions.

Thanks!

CCK allows you to add groups

CCK allows you to add groups to a content type then assign fields to those groups.

Right... I've got that set

Right...
I've got that set up....I just need the subgroup for 'Directions' ....can I create a subgroup in CCK?

Also look at...

..Contemplate for display of your Directions. Didn't mention this at first so as not to confiuse you too much, but seeing as you're forging ahead.... Contemplate allows you to quickly and simply control the way in which content types are displayed - you may find this of great use now!
