Search Engines/Drupal and Site Hits

happythoughts - March 27, 2008 - 19:01

I use Drupal 5.6 for my site, www.thewomensnest.com - I have two questions.

We have almost 500 members and I would like to know where I can see the number of hits my site is getting each day. I know where the logs are, and they show the most recent page visits, etc., but not the total number of daily for the site (or homepage).

Also, my web developers have told me that the reason Google isn't finding our site is that Drupal has SE blockers and that they have to find a way around them. Does anyone else have this issue? Is there a way around this? We went live Feb 17, 2008 and I can't imagine that with all of the active content that mentions women's forums, women's blogs, book club, etc., that Google isn't finding us unless we type in The Women's Nest, which for obvious reasons isn't want women searching for a community would look for.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Thank you!

" my web developers have told me that the reason Google isn't finding our site is that Drupal has SE blockers ", I have been in the search engine game since infoseek and this is the first time I have heard of the term "SE blockers" unless you have a robots.txt disallowing robots, noindex tags or ref=nofollow then i don't know what he/she is on about, anyway those tags have nothing to do with drupal. A quick look and I guess it is because you don't have any or many links pointing to your site, google in particular needs some sort of gauge as to how popular your site is and basically quality links (no link farms, links from spammy sites etc) = more popular the site (page rank) = higher ranking. Here is a start http://tinyurl.com/2usavq add some keywords in the search to narrow it down "womens forums", "womens blogs" etc

And yes you have plenty of pages indexed http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Athewomensnest.com , just no ranking and more will be indexed when you get quality links.

StatCounter

You could try mob http://www.statcounter.com/ . All you need to do is create an account there (or any like site), create some install code (easy to do, just form filling) and at the end of the process it spits out the code snippet required. At the Drupal end, create a new block, paste in the code, save block. Place block in footer area. Stats will be collected for every page visit. You'll see the various options available.

At the StatCounter end (or any like place) you can view your stats any which way. I find this very, very handy.
