I am a total noob to drupal..but, successfully installed everything and a few modules...but, I cannot get my user login block to show up....in the admin I have it set to left but nothing is there....ignore the banner...

really...thanks for the feedback but I cannot seem to logout...how do I find that block?

Make sure the navigation block is visible as logout is part of that

IIRC the login block dissapears when you log in. Unfortunatley i do not display teh block but use ?q=user after the url to bring up my login page
