workflow confusion!

dugawug - March 27, 2008 - 22:16

I've just installed the workflow and actions module and I just can't seem to figure this thing out. Here's all I want it to do:

For any page content type, if a User is of a particular group and goes to edit a page, a workflow gets started automatically that just requires a person from another group to approve the page edits before they go live. That's it. It's pretty simple.

Maybe someone experienced can at least tell me if this is possible or am I hurting my head over nothing and it'll require some custom coding?

Or a gentle nudge in the right direction with setting this up is also appreciated!! ;)

thanks, but i think my problems might be with the module (or actions module) itself. for one, if i assign an action to a workflow state, it doesn't stick!
i had to go back a version on actions to get around an error that was showing before. now i'm on Actions 5.x-1.0 and Workflow 5.x-1.2 but this still seems to not work!

ok, let me start this

ok, let me start this over.

it doesn't seem possible that a workflow does what i hope. that is, if someone in a group decides to edit a particular node, the edits would get stored, however, not published, and the workflow can get assigned to the next step where someone does decide to approve the edits, at which point the node is published. this doesn't seem possible so far....is it?

if i make edits to a page, the edits go through regardless. there's no "saving" the edits until the workflow is approved.

i think what i'm discovering

i think what i'm discovering is that workflow was never really designed for existing content pages. it doesn't make a copy of the node, all workflow style edits, and then overwrites the old content with the new once finished.

it seems to simply allow for a workflow before new content goes live. am i correct or seriously doing something wrong here?
