Once an asset is created there is no way to view or edit its permissions settings - whether it is a public or private access asset and if private which roles have access.

This problem is true in both, the Drupal Menu interface (i.e. Create Asset >> Directory, which is at /?q=asset/add/directory and Create Asset >> File, at ?q=asset/add/file) and in the Asset Wizard interface, both not providing neither an interface to view the Assets' settings nor to change them.

Once an asset is created the only way to access it's settings seems to be through a URL like:
http://localhost/bare-drupal-5.7/?q=asset/2/edit, which is not convenient nor intuitive, for obvious reasons.

Suggested fix:
Add a menu item Administer >> Content Management >> Assets, which would expose the available assets and allow viewing and changing the assets' settings.

Is this in the 5.x-1 branch and are you using the latest version? You can simply "edit" the asset in the asset wizard, using either TinyMCE or CCK, where you can edit both the perimissions and the roles.
