Drupal site and subfolder conatining basic html site - How?

Ok
I have a site running with drupal on the root. I have a basic HTML site uploaded in a subfolder. I am using aliases for nodes so when I add subfolder to link mysite.com/folder I get a error that drupal cant find page. I want the html site to load up instead. I am a novice but I read something about editing .htaccess but no luck so far. I want to keep the sites as they are. Thanks for any help and let me know if I need to clarify this
