Hi everyone,
I have a couple of questions for you. I am hoping I can get a little much needed help.
1. How would I remove the top links (menu) from the Garland Theme?
2. How would I remove the title from the side menu? I've tried serching the forums and internet for answers but cannot find them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

First of all, neither of these questions are specific to the garland theme. Secondly, they are easy to 'fix'.
NOTE: I have not used D6 in quite some time, so what I have given you is for D5, my guess is that the answers are basically the same, but you might have to do a bit of searching.
1. I believe you are referring to the "Primary Links". If this is true, then navigating to Admin > Site Building > Menus and then clicking on the settings tab (admin/build/menu/settings) will present you with the options for primary and secondary menus. Simply say "No Primary Links" for the primary links pull down and save that page.. that should remove the top menu.
2. Removing the title in the side menu. This side menu is really a block. So, navigating to the blocks admin page (admin > site building > blocks) and clicking configure next to the navigation block will present you with its options. If you type '' into the title field, it will be removed.
