I notice that my nice wiki/Page_Title paths automatically turn into node/number paths... is there a way around this?

you want the Pathauto module, that will allow different node types to take on particular form. You also want to make sure that CLEAN URL is turned on. If you are brand new to the drupal wiki, you might follow the directions on 'setting up a wiki" on; http://groups.drupal.org/wikihelp

And what on earth is the point of that group???? We already have a wiki group. http://groups.drupal.org/wiki.
