Taxonomy field missing in Biography Content Type form

For some reason, the taxonomy field doesn't show up in the form for the biography content type (the one automatically created with bio module). Not only are no categories showing up on the form page, but under "manage fields", but the grayed out entry for taxonomy (normally with a weight of -3) is missing.

Is this normal behaviour for the bio module, or does it have somethign perhaps to do with the fact I am using cck fieldgroup tabs?

All other content types show the taxonomy just fine, even with the cck fieldgroup tabs. How is bio different from a normal content type?
