It'd be great if there were an ldap_integration public API that other modules could make use. That would really make this module the cornerstone of sites that rely on LDAP. There are other modules that perform user searches and they very quickly lead you to issues similar to

At a minimum, the API would allow other modules to do LDAP user lookups and register them if not in the user database.

Indeed, this would be helpful for Securesite module, as well.
