I don't need it now, but I am tuning and modifying my current site to have the least painless upgrade path in the near future. I'd like to use pageroute if it will be available for Drupal 6. Otherwise I can make do with some of the other fine modules that will be available: views, panels, workflow/-ng, triggers, and actions.

Yes it still is. There is already a version in preparation.
