Subscriptions module for core

Drupal lacks a comprehensive module to manage email notification to updated content. The current subscriptions module allows users to subscribe to individual posts, categories or users, and email is sent whenever one of these entities is updated.

A rewrite of this module has been initiated, with the goal of having it included in Drupal core. The rewritten module is lying fallow in the CVS repository, unused and for the moment, ignored. This code represents a good start towards a core subscriptions module.

Deliverables:

• Adopt the new subscriptions module in its unfinished state.
• Implement various user interface improvements that have been suggested.
• Test and debug.
• Work with the Drupal developer community; react to their feedback and suggestions; prepare the code for inclusion in core.
