I'm having a problem with the Image / Upload modules.

When I was using old versions of the modules (I started building the site in November). I have a form where you can upload an image, and that works fine. I'm using "Private" for file system settings, so it throws the image in /files, but it's filtered as /system/files after you post it.

Authenticated users can view the node, but if you access the URI of the node as an Anonymous user, I get an empty space for the image in IE. In firefox the space is contracted.

If I place the URI of the image itself in the address bar I get the access denied message

I am using Image assist and Image assist is showing thumbnails in the nodes I want through out articles etc, but the above is true if you click on these images.

btw, All users have the right to see images.

Disabling ACL, Content Access and Forum Access (I had to disable this to disable ACL) and rebuilt the permissions. Unfortunately it still does not resolve the issue.

Now I have upgraded to the latest modules one at a time where they were not the latest and now thumbnails do not appear in articles, I am guessing this is down to image assist observing the image access rights as passed to it by the image module.

so now the problem is much worse... we have no images for potential members.

It was suggested that I disabled upload and low-and-behold... it starts working!

Strangely for me, all logged in users could see the images, not just user 1.
I will compile a list of modules in use to see if we can see similarities of (possibly rare) modules.

Thanks for anyones help, I really need upload and image to work nicely together, or at least have image and image assist and a replacement for upload.
