I'm sure this has been done before...not sure if I can word this correctly, I tried searching the site, but could only find info on "views"...

I would like to display the number of times each node is viewed on my site, similare to this http://popsugar.com you'll see next to comments it displays views ex: "268 views 8 comments"

I'm sure i'll have to hand code the php, but before i start thought i'd ask either the "best-practice" method is or is there a module i can install?

enable the statistics.module (part of core)
goto administer -> access log settings

set Count content views: to enabled

what is the php functions that display the "5 read" ?

I'll start searching and reading up on the stat module....now ;)
