If you rename a view in the views UI, this is not reflected in the Panels UI - basically Panels does not track views against the view id, rather the name. Or at least that's how it appears. The pane data is still there in config, but nothing appears on render. I'm assuming it's trying to do something with things that don't exist and "silently borking" (as Simon & Garfunkel wrote in "Homeward Bound").

View panes get confused, too. I ran into this the other day where I created a view, made a pane, then changed my mind on the view's name, which totally confused the pane and I had to delete and start over.

Agreed - I deleted the panels view and replaced it, but the panes were "Kung Fu Borking" (Carl Douglas) as well by that point.
