High performance web host?

I'm looking for a super speedy web host without the cost of a dedicated server. I've tried a vps package from godaddy and shared hosting from pair networks. Are there vps packages out there under US $50/ month which offer better performance than a shared plan?
Any ones which allow for large amounts of RAM?

You're probably not going to find lots of RAM in a VPS for under $50. It's just a fact of life. Maybe in the future as costs come down. But VPS offerings are usually faster than shared hosting. I wouldn't recommend godaddy for anything, however.
How much RAM did you need? 'Large Amounts' vary depending upon the application.
