Hello everyone,

I am planning to conduct a workshop on Drupal in my univ (www.svnit.ac.in) as part of the regular workshops being conducted by our ACM Chapter. Its aimed at newbies. Primarily, I want to show them how to create dynamic, content driven sites using drupal. I want to keep php coding to the minimal, if possible, not at all.Any suggestion on what content to include or anything else is more than welcome?

Regards,
Sandip

sounds like you simply want to show them how to install, set up and post content.

maybe get in to how to upload contrib modules and themes as well to get them a footing when it comes to addons.

I agree that a very basic "point A to point B" approach would be a good way to start. I do think that Drupal requires learning over time. No noob would be very successful after just one session.

Are you planning on doing multiple sessions?

Mention best practices when setting up a site e.g. Test sites!
Community involvement in the modules you use ultimately result in a net gain.
History, principles and mission of the project (found in the getting started guide)

While multi-site is cool and all, perhaps use it later, for now pretend it doesn't exist.

Drupal is a bunch of PHP scripts, your site also includes a database and a webserver, so perhaps problems are not Drupal related but environment related.

Sign up to the Security list. And update your sites in a timely manner.

@verymisunderstood: yeah i do plan to show how to install modules and themes..and will just mention about hooks...
@TonyV:Yes it would run into multiple sessions...however at the end of this session i would like the audience to be able to build a site using drupal and extend the functionality using modules...i would also like to cover the form api....but time is a constraint...just 2 hours...our univ conducts various events throughout the year, for which sites are required...I want that my audience should be able to create such a site after attending this workshop....basically putting up content, accepting comments on pages and user registration info for various events using forms...

@sepek: thnx a lot...will surely do that

further suggestions are welcome...I have time till monday
