File search is a great feature, but in it's current location it is impossible to find. With today's interfaces people are trained to look in right click menus when they want to do something directly to what they are right clicking on. That is a direct manipulation of that item.

Search however is not such a manipulation. Folder search should be pulled out of the right click menu and put somewhere more visible, this is a great and useful tool and the predominant way people find information on the internet (even inside a drupal site), so why hide the file search and make it pretty much invisible. This is a big feature, lets treat it that way and give it some real-estate in the file manager, it can still be a link to the search inside a modal dialog, but just make it visible without a right click.

Search could use a lot of enhancement in general - metadata search included. By putting it into the context menu of a directory the user knows exactly which directory he/she is searching.

Originally search was in its own fieldset and I might reinstate it, but only as part of an overhaul of search.

What if we pull the search link out of the context menu and into the file browser window in the row with the folder you are searching? This way it's not hidden initially, while it is not as pretty, it will be more findable. The key issue, is that you wont find the search unless you know where to look for it. So just puling it out of the context menu, and attached to every folder will make it more findable.

A search overhaul would be a welcome improvement too, but the current implementation can be made more usable, or findable just by putting it in a place where more people will find it.
