Why can you only specify one ad placement per node type?

I really like this module but one glaring hole in it is that you can only specify one placement of an ad per node type. In a long article it is likely that a person would want to place multiple ads in different spots throughout the text and currently this is not possible. I am very interested in implementing this and if I had some guidance I could help to fix this issue if anyone is interested.
