I checked out this http://drupal.org/getting-started/5/install-contrib/themes
I duplicated the bluemarine directory, renamed it, then put it in the /sites/all/themes/ dir, and I went to the Themes within the Site Building section of the administrator settings, for the site theme, not the admin theme, then it displays the list, but it does not show my newly added theme.
I also added the theme into the directory /themes/, still nothing.
am i doing something wrong?

I had the same issue as you,
I had the same issue as you, see http://drupal.org/node/171205
You need to modify the .info file, in drupal 6.x it is much easier!

thanks
thanks for the help, i have yet to look, but i will tonight, that will probably do the trick.
i am use to forum replies to send a notification to my email, i guess drupal forums do not, unless you know a way it does.
thanks again!
Adding new theme in 6.2
I installed 6.1 this morning and did an immediate upgrade to 6.2.
Now I have uploaded the art4_green theme in the sites/all/themes directory, but nothing appears in my theme board.
You said it would be easier in 6.x, but still struggling.
I have all permissions at 755
and don't see an .info in this theme.
Thanks for your help

Thanks
Indeed it solved the problem of showing in the themes. I can see it now, but it is not a 6.2 compatible theme.
seems that I have to develop my own then.
any suggestions for a way to do this the most efficiently are welcome. I like the style of Drupal, but I'm not sure yet on the ease of everything. e107 is still a good alternative. Doubt doubt Doubt.
