The documentation says that there is a banner in the theme. How to start it and where to store the images ?

under the theme there is a folder called img/banner and all the images there rotate randomly

Yes, I found it but the banner doesn't rotate (automatically) for me. That is why I asked how do to it.

It sounds like you are having caching issues...

Download the latest version of the marinelli theme - 1.7 it incorporates fixes for this issue...

See #234410: Random Header Not So Random For Me for more info. Please check to see if this matches your problem...

This issue is being closed because it is against a branch for a version of Drupal that is no longer supported.
If you feel that this issue is still valid, feel free to re-open and update it (and any possible patch) to work with the 7.x-4.x branch.
