Problem with Swedish characters in file names

Hi,
I have installed the Private Upload module and it seems to work fine. Except for when I try to download a file including Swedish characters. However, if I uncheck the Private checkbox, making the file Public, then I can successfully download the file. When I re-check the Private checkbox the problem re-appears. What should I do?

http://drupal.org/project/transliteration took care of all my problems. Great module! It converts more or less unsafe characters in filenames, such as Swedish characters, to US-ASCII characters.
