Issue Summary

My avatars have always worked fine but suddenly, for what appears to be no reason at all, the site reset everyone's avatar to the site default. All the images are still in files/avatar_selection. I have cleared the db table and rescanned, disabled/uninstalled the module... nothing works.

Anytime someone tries to choose an avatar they get the following error:

"The selected file /home/xxxxxx/public_html/files/avatar_selection/avatar_2637.gif could not be copied."

I have deleted all avatars and reuploaded them as well.

any thoughts? I am thinking this has something to do with Drupal's garbage files folder permissions....

Have you upgraded anything on the site recently? Have you checked the file permissions on the file and directory?

Can you also send me your avatar selection settings, along with the user picture settings from admin/user/settings? And what are your file system settings (I need the directory path and public vs private downloads)?

Finally, would it be possible for me to view the site on which this is happening - my contact form is enabled, so you could send me the url there if you prefer.

Cheers,
Stella

All files are 777, sites/all/files/avatar_selection/ right down to the individual avatar pics... all 777.

Avatar selection settings:
30 avatars per page... all else unchecked

file system:
path: sites/all/files
/tmp
public selected

nothing has been upgraded, but site was recently moved to a new hosting account (thats why I cleared the tables as I read that sometimes needs to be done following move)

site is www.tapbjj.com

Hi,

I've created an account on your website (username snpower - feel free to delete once we resolve this issue!). I was successfully able to pick an avatar from the list and it now appears on my profile page.

However, I did see the error message you mentioned, but also this message too (just above it, not in red):

Avatar could not be synced from Smf to Drupal from url. Enable in Smf Admin Avatar Settings "Download avatar at given URL".

It also appears when I just view my profile or other users' profiles. I'm guessing it's generated by the SMFforum module. If you disable that does it work? Maybe one of its paths isn't accessible.

Cheers,
Stella

I got broken links to my pictures when I upgraded Avatar Selections to the new version. I bulk updated which worked fine to get the pictures back, only now I have two versions of the avatars: One file-name only and one as should be.

Update:
Just found this:
http://drupal.org/node/232090 helped me on the way.

majsan: the old ones should have been cleared out during the upgrade. I would remove all entries from the "avatar_selection" table and then do a bulk update again to import them again. As of the newer version, only the filename gets stored in the database, not the full path.

bstrange: the original error you reported should be fixed with the patch from comment #9 in issue #227089: avatar_selection loses all avatars.. Alternatively out the latest dev release. Marking this issue as a duplicate of #227089.

Cheers,
Stella
