This is a new installation of Drupal 6.2
Trying to create a "virtual site" with the virtual sites module
When I click on admin/build/sites/add I get "access denied"
I tried creating a new user with administrator permissions (all checked)
I still get access denied
btw, I also get access denied when trying to add a new condition

Access denied on Virtual site and Condition : same here
I'm a newbie, but have drupal doing more or less what I need.
Since I need some solution to create multiple 'sections' in the site with different themes and content, the Virtual sites module seemed like a nice try. But I too get 'access denied' when trying to set up condition or a virtual site.
Using drupal 6.2
Help is welcome!
Yep same here
I just posted a support request about this identical problem in the Virtual Sites project page. I even created a new role called 'admin' and gave it access to everything, then applied that role to myself, even though I am already the super-user and should, by default, have access to everything. I also have this same problem with the "Conditions" module that Virtual Sites requires.
Apparently neither of these modules work.
Too bad; it was a great idea.
Andria
still need support
I don't suppose either of you know Dutch, or know someone who does, to go to his homepage and goose him into coming over here and supporting this module? If he isn't going to support it, it should be removed from the modules page.
I tried uninstalling it from the regular modules dir, and reinstalling in sites/all/modules but that didn't work either; still 'access denied' for Conditions or Virtual sites.

PS: I managed to puzzle out the Dutch and find his contact form on his homepage, so I left a msg for him there too. Maybe that will do some good.
has anyone here used multi sites?
I tried Virtual Sites because it's supposed to be easier/better than multi sites
I have read the neverending thread on multisites for dummies and the v. 5 handbook section and the documentation cookbook.
Still can't get a multi site installation in my /sites/ directory to work.
Maybe because I don't have "parked domains" - I used subdomain pointers, but that's supposed to work, too.
I put a copy of the settings.php with the new site's db info in the new site's directory, but when I navigate to the subdomain, nothing happens
Tried prefixes in the same db, too - the prefixed tables were created, but still no site.
I also created a multi site node with the multi site module, but couldn't quite follow the readme in the module. I tried making a symlink, but that didn't work either, probably because I set it up wrong.
::sigh::

this is next
Since I can't do anything with Virt Sites, multi-sites is next to try for me also. I posted a comment in the thread "Multi-Site Configuration Using Apache Virtual Hosts, One Database, and Table Prefixes (Success)" -- http://drupal.org/node/69924 -- about trying this but using separate databases, since at my host I have unlimited databases, but haven't gotten any response yet, so I'm not exactly sure how to do it (with separate databases instead of prefixes). It seems to me that the original drupal db is huge enough without bloating it further, and although at my new host the db accesses are PDQ, I know for a fact that's not the case at many, if not most, hosts, so making the db unnecessarily large seems like very poor management of server resources.
I'll have to play with it, see if I can make it go. But I sure wish that dutchman would come on over here and support Virt Sites.
Andria
the dutchman has suggested trying .dev
I contacted him through his Drupal account and he says the issue is known, maybe it's fixed, or please try .dev also
I haven't tried it.
Yeah, I tried multisites with table prefixes and with a separate db. Followed the cookbooks step by step but no success.
Interested to hear if/how Andria gets it working. Please keep us posted. Are you using multiple domains (or "parked domains") or subdomains?
I have Vdeck not cPanel, I don't see any "parked domains" - I tried subdomain pointing and almost disastrous symlink, I created a subdirectory with my entire public_html in it, just like the mistake in the multisites for dummies thread.

not sure what that is
I don't know what ".dev" means -- is there an answer for this somewhere? It's not posted in the Virt Sites project page.
I was planning on trying out multi-sites with subdomains, as those are also unlimited at my host -- I suppose subdomains with Virt Sites also, if that thing can be made to allow access to super-users!
I'd really rather use Virt Sites, if it can be made to work; multi-sites really does look like a godawful bear to set up, and your experience reinforces that perception. I can have "parked" domains at my host, which uses cPanel, but at the moment I don't have any; my budget is a little tight to pay registration fees for domains I don't even use. Of course, for my domain (crypticsites), I own the .com, the .net, and the .biz, so I suppose I could "park" one of them and see how it goes. (trying out drupal 6.x on the .biz; the .com has a partially-completed drupal 5.something-or-other site on it, but then I got sidetracked with this 6.x and thought I'd see how usable it was. The jury's still out, though it is pretty nice. But since my ultimate aim is to use the eCommerce thingie and I don't know if the newest upgrade (4.?) for that is "finished" yet for Drupal 6.x, as I say, the jury is still out).
Andria
ok I figured it out
Ok, I figured out what you meant about the .dev -- that release of the module. But what about the Conditions module? It's doing the same thing with that crazy "access denied," and I don't see a .dev release of that, just many earlier versions -- any suggestions?
Andria
Ok!
Well, he apparently updated Virt Sites, but still no word about "Condition", even though it's a prerequisite, and it's doing the same thing... *sigh*
Andria
update virtual sites module works -- but not conditions
Same as Andria reported the new v 6.x-1.3 of virtual sites fixed the "add" problem
but conditions module still has "access denied" on "add" so virtual site cannot be accessed by condition
but---
(from the virtual sites page)
I access my database so: mysql://dbuname:dbpw@siteuname.startlogicmysql.com/dbname
I use "siteuname.startlogicmysql.com" to connect to the db server instead of default "localhost" so is that "Database URL (DSN)." meaning I can't use Virtual Sites anyway?

and so on
He emailed me in response to my contact at his site last night, advising me of the new release of Virt Sites, so I responded back to him about Condition; that was about 5 hrs ago and still haven't heard anything, so I just reached out and touched again, reminding him that without something done about Condition, Virt Sites is useless. But I guess it's, what, about 6pm now over there, so who knows if we'll hear anything about it today or not.
*sigh*
Andria
...and on...
I finally posted an issue about it on the Conditions page, maybe that will get SOMEBODY'S attention.
