file browser module and proetcted area

Hi,

on my homepage für my university, I need to offer secure downlodas for students and teachers (like publications, datas etc...).

I am looking for a file browsing module, meaning I upload all my files on my ftp, and on my dupral content page, I have a file browser, that shows all files in a folder of my ftp server with download rights.

Is there a module?

In addition I want a hidden. I could do that with a user, the people have to log in with, in order to have the rights to user the file browser. But is it also possible with a single password the people type in on the website to gain access to the file browser?

Thank You
Klaus

I'm looking for something similar

but either public or private filesystem seems unable to do this.

What I have is long filenames that cannot easily be guessed. I then use taxonomy access control module to allow/deny access to the nodes that have these files attached to them. Not ideal as the files are still public, but....

Would love to know any solution to this that you mange to find,
Gareth

Is there a module?

There are many. When i want to find them I do:

  1. http://drupal.org
  2. click on the "Modules" link in the big green "Download" box on the top right of the screen
  3. filter by the version of drupal i'm using (you have to be logged in for this)
  4. look for an appropriate category, in this case it's obvious: File management
  5. browse the modules for likely candidates
  6. load up the possibilities on a test system to check them out
  7. select one

Browsing that category I spotted several obvious candidates for you:
