Modules for Drupal 6
ericinwisconsin - April 11, 2008 - 19:26
I'm currently using version 5.7, and plan to upgrade to 6.x in the near future.
Currently there are far fewer modules for 6.x than 5.x. That's understandable, and I realize that everyone is working his/her butt off to get modules ready for 6.x. I wasn't a user long enough to have gone through the 4.x to 5.x upgrade process. About how long will it take for 6.x modules come close to the number of 5.x modules? Not asking for a specific date; not saying I won't upgrade until this is the case; and CERTAINLY NOT saying "hurry up"! Just curious how long this process took from 4.x to 5.x.
Regards,
Eric

Eric-
I don't have a good timeline, but you can get an idea of the timeline that many of the modules are on at:

Wouldn't matter
Even if you had been around, that wouldn't have told you anything. It's taking a lot longer this time. Two significant modules, CCK and Views, underwent complete rewrites rather than straight ports. While it's awesome that these modules are getting a much needed reworking, the downside is that the whole cycle has gotten slowed down.
You'd get a better idea by simply figuring out what modules you need and checking their queues / project pages for an idea of when they'll go to 6.x. I do know there are a bunch that won't be until this summer.
