CCK module has a related field that let's you specify the node type. I don't think you can control how many results are returned. It does use ajax to make dynamic suggestions. The cck field doesn't necessarily show related content in useful way, but I think some simple php can do that. So why not bring these features to that part of CCK instead of a completely separate module?
