I've loaded all the modules, I'm logged in as admin but nowhere can I see any way to create code for a remote ad.

Yes thanks I did see that but no it didn't help.

I've uninstalled the module and reinstalled but still no mention of 'remote'.

However I figured out what the URL was and the function is there and works ... there's just no mention of it in the navigation.

Have you tried manually flushing your cache? Reinstalling the module should of had this effect, so that's unlikely to help.

What if you browse to "Administer > Site building > Menus", does the menu item exist in the Navigation menu?

Ah ha! I have found it. The ads menu was created on install but for some reason the remote ads menu item was orphaned off on it's own in the Navigation menu.

Quite possibly all my own fault.
