Can't post comments and forum topics not showing up

The posting of comments will not work anywhere on the site no matter if I am logged it on logged out. I have made sure that in Access Control, Access comments and post comments is enabled.
If I post a new forum topic it will not show up on the forum page but it does show up in the Recent Forum Topics block and I can access it through there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

needed information:
specific version of Drupal installed? 5.x doesn't mean much anymore now that there are 7 releases of Drupal 5
contrib modules installed?

you should be using the latest release of Drupal 5.x which is 5.7. it inlcudes bug fixes and security fixes not found in Drupal 5.5
after upgrading to the lastest release and if problem still continues , report back.
The module list doesn't really show me much in the way of something that may be interferring. I'd start with taxonomy_list and disable it to see if functionality returns.
beyond that you would have to disable each module one at a time to find out of any of the non core modules are in some way interferring.

The upgrade fixed it, thanks a lot!
Actually not all solved
Still no forum post showing up even though they display in the New forum posts block. Going to try disabling modules to see if that helps.
Forum issue still after disabling all modules
Disabled all modules on the site and still the same issue with the forum. The forum posts post fine but the are not being placed under the categories. When I open up a post from the "New forum posts" block the path shows: "Home › Forums" so even though I posted it under a specific forum it does not go into that category.
Found the fix!

fixed it - Forums had a Category Type of "Forum Topic" but with 5.6 apparently also needed to have an additional type of "page" (or always did and was somehow disabled during upgrade)
On 5.7 and Users Still Can't Post comments
They click on the Post button and it just returns with a the fields filled in and the post not submitted.
Any other ideas?
