Calling all OG Masters

I have 5.7 install running Organic Groups for a Class Alumni site. I have multiple years that are interested in using the site (1998, 1999, 2000), which means that I need multiple groups to accommodate them separately. I have it all installed and running perfectly except one thing managed to break. I need default user roles set-up so that if they choose the 1998 class on the registration form then they will automatically get assigned to the "class of 1998" Drupal role so that they can have access to the forum. I had this working for a while, and then I started getting module-happy and for some reason it doesn't work anymore. Originally i was using the og_default_roles module, but I also tried the og_promote module, and neither of them will work anymore. Is there another module that could be conflicting with these two modules and causing them to not function properly.

Recently, I have installed ACL and Forum Access modules but am unsure if they would be causing the problems. Any help would be appreciated.
